Design Basics: the golden ratio

Even at the dawn of time people became known secretforming the harmony of all that exists: the structure of plants, the human body, forms the lakes and rivers, and even the smallest of sea shells. This knowledge was used in the construction of the world's most famous architectural masterpieces, such as the Parthenon, Notre Dame, St. Basil's Cathedral and many other structures, whose beauty impresses with its perfect proportions and is a reference for contemporary architecture, art and design.

At the turn of the century, creating their own original masterpieces, the well-known painter, inventor, sculptor, Leonardo da Vinci gave the name to the phenomenon of the correct ratio of the size of space, which in our days are guided by professional architects, painters and decorators in the activity. The phenomenon, of which we speak is called "golden section", and its principle is so simple and ingenious at the same time, it raises questions about the existence of Bozhestennoy, the magic of the natural world around us.

What is the "golden mean"?

Golden Section is called division of the whole into twounequal parts, in which the smaller part relates to more like a big relates to the whole. At the same time, most close to the "golden" value of 0, 618 on the whole, and smaller - to 0, 382.

The most telling example of the presence of"Golden Section" is a rectangle, because its sides are in the "golden" ratio. So, if from the "golden" rectangle cut square with a side equal to the smaller side of the rectangle, then a golden rectangle smaller, and so on ad infinitum.

The success of the application of the rules of the "golden section" ininterior is such that the size ratio intuitively perceived by the human eye as the most approximate to the ideal. So in the space, decorated according to the rule of "golden section", comfortable to live, work and relax.

The golden section when planning space

The ability to use the rule of "golden section" is notvain called art because not everyone is a specialist in the design and decorating manages to master it fully. But if you are lucky enough to learn it, the process of planning and construction of interiors become easy, but the result - surpassing all expectations.

As an example of using the "goldensection "in the interior, you can take the living room space with dimensions equal to 5x3 m. To the zoning space is successful, and the situation was perceived light and harmonious, should be multiplied by the value of the gold 0.618 length of the room (5 m). In sum, you get 3.09 m, which represent a large part of the premises. The next step should be to subtract this number (3.09), and 5 to determine the value of the smaller part. So, you should have 3,09m and 1, 91m, respectively.

Following the rule of "golden section" can be issueda living area with a sofa and TV group in the space of much of the room, and give less to accommodate dining group. The same principle should be divided more and less of the living room, where the "golden" principle is manifested in the smaller sizes.

The Golden Ratio in the size ratio

Often such a situation arises in which a newSofa set in the space of a particular room "by eye" look is not appropriate (too small or large, is not harmonious). This can be avoided if you apply in advance, the same rule of "golden section" in the formation of the vertical space of the room.

The height of the room, we again multiply the number of0,618, then subtract the resulting value of the number of height. The resulting number is the optimal height of the sofa for a given room. You can also calculate the value of the width and length of harmonious large furniture.

Golden Section in colors

The principle of "golden section" is applicable in any fielddesign, including the interior, by means of color. Thus, the presence of various hues, the number and intensity can be reconciled, according to the golden rule.

For example, in the design of the walls should be usedone shade to 2/3 of the entire area (beige, blue); 1/3 can be given white or gray. Thus, thanks to the "golden section", you build up the main (basic) interior scheme.

Another no less effective waythe ratio of the number of colors in the space is to use percentages 60/30/10. Where 60% - the main color, 30% - an additional 10% - accent.

The Golden Ratio in the selection height

The walls make a goodimpression, if the design of the law as the "golden section" has been applied. For example, when facing surface of the wall panels can be divided by the height of the walls of the golden principle once, or to continue the division at (lower) part to obtain the desired size. In both cases, the decision would be, and the height of the upper edges of the panels will be perceived harmony.

A single division is suitable for rooms with a ceiling height of more than 3 meters, the subsequent division of the larger and smaller portions will help to visually enlarge the space low

Golden Section in furniture and decor

Rule relationship smallest to largest, as themore to the whole, you will surely be positioned in the space decorative accessories, arrange furniture and combine all the items together to get comfortable, aesthetic and comfortable interior.

If we talk about the relationship of furnituretogether, the "golden ratio" once again proves to be effective if each smaller object size will be so treated for more, as the one to the largest.

"Right corner sofa should formright angle, which is short of the landing takes 1/3 of the length of the landing. At the same time, a coffee table should be chosen so that its length does not exceed the lesser value of the majority of the sofa "

As you can imagine, not all the work of designers, decorators and architects have been carried out in compliance with the rules of the "golden section", but those in which it is present, look more balanced and perfect.
